Myles's Adventure (short version)

Myles slipped and fell on Saturday March 20th. He had a bump on the back of his head and wouldn't put any weight on his left leg. On Sunday, after a rough night, we took him into the after hours pediatrician. Myles was in pain and we couldn't tell where he was really hurting so the Dr sent us to Orem Hospital for x-rays. The radiologist said there was a possible micro-fracture on his tibia so the doctor decided to put Myles in a splint. On Wednesday I took Myles in to his pediatrician for a follow up appointment and we decided to keep him in the splint for a few more days and then do another x-ray. Hopefully with the second x-ray we would see the fracture better or see that the bone was healing.

The next Tuesday, March 30th, Morgan and I took Myles to get his x-ray. Our Doctor, Sue Ann, called me that night to tell me that the radiologist didn't see anything in the x-ray and to take Myles out of the splint. We took the splint off and watched him carefully all Wednesday. Sue Ann called back Wed night and I told her that Myles still wouldn't walk on his leg. She was concerned and Thursday she talked with the radiologist and called me back. The x-ray was still hard to read, they didn't see a fracture and they didn't see healing bone but with how Myles was acting we put him back in the splint for a few more day and made an appointment for more x-rays.

On Monday April 5th I took Myles back into for his third set of x-rays and then went next door to the doctors office. Sue Ann got the report back and this time the radiologist saw healing bone on his tibia. I had a choice if I wanted to keep Myles in a splint for 2 1/2 weeks or we could cast him. We decided to go ahead and put him in a cast because we didn't want Myles putting weight on his leg and he has more mobility in the splint. Myles got a blue cast from his toes up over his knee. We will keep him in the cast until April 22nd when I have a follow up appointment and another x-ray.

Myles has been so fabulous this whole time. He doesn't have any pain in his leg unless he puts his full weight on it. I feel so blessed to have such a sweet and wonderful boy. I am so thankful for the medial care Myles has received and for all the friends who have watched my other boys during doctors appointments. I am also thankful for the support from family and friends. Hopefully this adventure will end well and end soon.
